About Us

South African Forestry Contractors Association (SAFCA) is a non-profit organization that represents and advocates for the interests of forestry contractors in South Africa. SAFCA works to promote the sustainable development of the forestry sector, provide support and resources to its members who are involved in various aspects of forestry operations such as: harvesting, silviculture and related services. The association acts as a representative for the forestry contractor community and works towards enhancing their professional standards, safety practices and overall industry recognition.

Our History

Formed in Kaapsehoop, Mpumalanga in 1989 with just 9 members, SAFCA was envisioned as a platform to unite forestry contractors. Over the years, our range of services has been adapted to best serve our members. Retaining key services has been crucial as we continue to support contractors in the all-important compulsory Fire Risk Insurance, forestry-technical advice, costing guidance, and representation on various forums.

As the representative of forestry contractors, SAFCA collaborates with industry organizations like Forestry South Africa (FSA) and the Forest Sector Charter Council (FSCC) and Tertiary Institutes. Participation in discussions on human resources, B-BBEE compliance, costing and codes of practice highlights our dedication to ensuring a sustainable and inclusive industry. Our presence in addressing industry-wide matters underscores the commitment to nurturing a dynamic future for forestry contractors in South Africa.
